Synopsis/Learning Objectives:

Define perinatal mental health and describe the scope, prevalence, and key risk factors of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs)

Recognize the signs and symptoms of major perinatal mental health conditions, distinguish them from typical perinatal experiences, and understand their potential impacts on the birthing parent, infant attachment, and family dynamics.

Implement recommended screening practices in private practice, including appropriate timing and use of validated tools such as the EPDS to guide initial assessment.

Apply trauma-informed, evidence-based supportive interventions, including psychotherapy approaches, stigma-reduction strategies, and client empowerment techniques.
