Anyta Wilson, LCSW,
Ignoring race during therapy is unethical, but easy to do! The audience will learn how white fragility can impact both the clinician and the client, how to recognize it when it occurs and how to recover the relationship. Participants will have opportunities to practice introducing the topic of race in a session and to process their own discomfort around the topic. A brief history of systemic oppression and social justice definitions will be covered to give participants context for the problem and a common language to use so miscommunication can be avoided. Finally, reading lists and other resources will be provided for further professional development after the workshop.
