Gary U. Behrman, PhD, LCSW, will present on resiliency and the ability to bounce forward after a trauma.
Following a crisis, we will have multiple responses that often place our health in jeopardy. Whether facing cancer, divorce, job loss, tours of duty, domestic violence, substance abuse, or the death of a loved one, we seek to understand and know what helps us to “bounce forward.” Following a crisis, it often is impossible to bounce back to the way we were. It is critical that we understand the dynamics of crisis recovery to respond effectively and to “bounce forward” to a new way of living. Together we will surface strategies and resources that are future orientated and will enable us to heal when we struggle through our trauma.
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will:
1. Understand what makes an event traumatic
2. Learn the bio-psycho-social-spiritual impact of a crisis event
3. Identify characteristics and traits associated with positive outcomes that enhance resilience
4. Apply skills and strategies that facilitate resilience and improve health following a crisis.
